Check it out #13

Here's an article on Rod Dreher, a self-proclaimed "crunchy conservative" some of you guys might be interested in, from the Wall Street Journal. I have occasional crunchy-con moments. Here's a link to a very interesting forum on the subject with comments by Dreher himself at National Review, where Dreher regularly writes. And here's another WSJ piece on why extreme politics causes anger and vice-versa. This article is maybe even more applicable to Spain than to the US.

This is a comment from Jonah Goldberg at National Review:

But where are the protests in London and Denmark and Pakistan (other than the anti-American ones) denouncing the destruction of the shrine in Iraq? You judge people by what they do. Is blowing up Mosques and Holy Shrines not as offensive to mainstream Muslims as doodling cartoons in Denmark? No? Prove it.

Sports fans should read this piece from the Weekly Standard on publicly-funded stadiums.

Arts and Letters Daily links to a review of a book about Muslims in Europe by our man Bruce Bawer, known to be a sometime Iberian Notes reader, from the New York Sun.

Here's William Saletan's Human Nature column at Slate, a must-read. Regularly fascinating. And here's the Explainer column, well, explaining what a port operator does in case you're interested. This is Jonah Goldberg explaining why the port kerfuffle is no big deal.
