Kick Iran out of the World Cup
The Weekly Standard has an excellent idea on a step we can take to let Iran know, just in case it hadn't figured it out, that this nuclear weapons and wiping Israel off the face of the earth stuff is not popular with the rest of us on this here world.
Kick them out of the World Cup.
There are plenty of precedents, among them the banning of South Africa's sports teams from international competition during the apartheid years, and the ejection of Yugoslavia from the 1992 European Cup tournament during the wars there.
It seems that the Iranian people are very excited about their team's classification for Germany this summer. Well, there's no reason the rest of the world should let them participate in our big football tournament as long as their government is building nukes with the express purpose of dropping them on Jerusalem.
Kicking them out of the World Cup would let every Iranian know that what his government is doing is not acceptable to all the rest of us. Maybe the mass national disappointment will help convince them to get rid of the fanatics running their country. It probably won't, of course, but it can't hurt to try, and it would certainly send a message.
