Scattershooting

The PP just will not shut up with this March 11 conspiracy stuff. People, this is getting us absolutely nowhere.

Too many people get killed on the highways around here. Causes: Drunk driving, taking stupid risks.

This Pedro Solbes guy talks sense most of the time. He's the only one of Zapatero's cabinet I like. Moratinos is my unfavorite.

The Tom-and-Katie Scientology have-your-baby-without-screaming thing is being reported in gossip sheets around the world. In case you didn't know anything about Scientology, it is of course a fake, a fraud, a cult, a massive racketeering scheme. If I were the FBI I'd investigate them under the RICO act.

Tom Cruise's Screen Masculinity Rating, if John Wayne is 100 and Pee-Wee Herman is 0: 17, slightly higher than Guti's.

Cults-for-cash do seem to be a particularly American phenomenon. That is, there have been all kinds of weirdo cults around the world that have arisen for whatever reason, but it took us to make them profitable as well. It can't hurt to point out that, of course, the poor folks who get victimized by scams like est and Scientology are a pretty small percentage of the population, under 1%.

It also can't hurt to point out that there are three cults operating right now in Barcelona, trying to recruit members: Tvind, who run the Humana used-clothing chain, New Acropolis, and the Siloists, also known as the Humanist Party.

They're using that Violent Femmes song, "Blister in the Sun," as the background to a car ad over here. They're also using "The Times They Are A-Changin'" for some other ad, and a power-rock anthem version of "Have You Ever Seen the Rain," which is of course a sad song, for a third. I remember back around 1982 when everyone got indignant because Nike bought the rights to "Revolution." Charges of selling out were made. None would be made now. At least now everyone in the pop music business admits he sold out a long time ago.
